There are lots of new exotic cordials out there on the supermarket shelves now (particularly Waitrose, who seem to haved made a speciality of them).

We tried:
Duchy Originals Strawberry and Mint, £2.99 ,50cl, Tesco & Waitrose
Surprisingly, when diluted this looks like ginger ale. The mint shines though as the more powerful scent and flavour, floriously refreshing and deliciously ‘adult’.

Blossom Cottage Morello Cherry, £1.89, 50cl, Waitrose
Blossom Cottage is a new line just launched by the successful cordial company, Bottle Green. Although cherries sometimes feature unsuccessfully in soft drinks (cherry cola for instance) this has a genuine scent and flavour of the dark, not so sweet cherries the drink is made from. Powerful flavour, but not too sweet and quite unusual.

Pixley Berries cordials, £2.99, Waitrose and regional stockists
All based on blackcurrant, these are grown-up versions of ribena and consequently much much less sweet with a wholesome flavour of the dark berry fruit. A little earthy and much less commercial than the children’s favourite.
