Jilly's recommended English wines are:
ROSE:
Chapel Down English Rose 2006 :This is a blend of a number of grape types including Pinot Noir and Schonburger. Crisp, balanced, English character (strawberries) and does what it's supposed to do better - refresh.
Available in Waitrose, EH Booth, The Institute of Directors, Selfridges, (and in Roast, Konstam and Conran restaurants.) Sells for £7.99 to £8.99.
SPARKLING:
Chapel Down Pinot Reserve 2001
Deliciously grown-up sparkling wine made in the Champagne style from Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc grapes As good as good champagne. This particular one is 60% Pinot Noir, 40% Pinot Blanc. It has remarkable freshness and clean fresh fruit for a vintage (2001) wine. This is typical of well made English fizz. Typically the style is for non-mallolactic fruity cleanness which Chapel Down have pioneered.
This fizz will often be seen at the very best restaurants such as Gordon Ramsay (here and New York!), Gary Rhodes, Richard Corrigan, Brian Turner, Fortnums etc. but costs a lot more in restaurants! (£35-60)
Available in Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsbury as well as EH Booth, The prices range from £14.99 to £24.99
