Reza Mahammad is one of Britain’s freshest culinary talents. Educated in India, Reza reveals a common background with Freddie Mercury... Not many people know that Reza’s father was one of the first pioneer Indian chefs to arrive in the UK and founded “Star of India" in London’s Fulham which boasts a long list of celebrity customers.
Reza has been running his own highly successful and innovative restaurant, “Star of India” for more than 25 years. Not many people know that Reza’s father was one of the first pioneer Indian chefs to arrive in the UK and founded “Star of India” in London’s Fulham which boasts a long list of celebrity customers. Reza also has a successful catering company which provides an eclectic mix of Mediterranean, Oriental, Middle Eastern and Indian food.
Even though he cut his televisual teeth on ‘Flavours of India’ in 1994, Reza really came into his own as co-presenter with Sanjeev Baskar on ‘Delhi Belly’ in 2001 for UKTV. The much talked about series is still being repeated on air to this day and has lost none of its popularity. Following the departure of Nippy Singh from ‘A Place in France’, Channel 4 came looking for the next big star for their hugely popular series and found it in Reza – this resulted in the completion of the next two series – ‘A Place in France’ II & III. Reza’s relationship with UKTV resumed with Coconut Coast in 2003 and was followed by United States of Reza.
